~ Synopsis ~
After three years in Boston attending college, Mallory Wells has come home to Casper, Maine to care for her father, who is dying from cancer. She left Casper without looking back, leaving her small-town life and everyone in it, behind. Including her sexy high school sweetheart.
Luke Bates was devastated when Mallory left him for the city life. He managed to pull himself together and move on, even if only just barely. When Mallory shows up in town, Luke vows to stay away from her at all costs. So why does he keep checking in on her and her father, showing up when he’s clearly uninvited? Maybe Luke isn’t as ‘over her’ as he thought.

Solid 4 Stars****
Broken Promises by Dawn Pendleton was such a nice surprise for me. When we decided to make this our July read, I have to say I wasn’t that excited and kept putting in off. It wasn’t because it didn’t sound good, I was just kind of ambivalent towards it. I think when you have so many books on your kindle, the ones you “have” to read sometimes get the cold shoulder. Let me tell you, Broken Promises was such a great quick read. It took me only a couple of hours to read and I was hooked from the very beginning. I actually had a really hard time putting it down. I felt bad for putting it off for so long but I am really glad I got the opportunity to read it. If I hadn’t “had” to read it, it may of slipped by me. The story was a great one of love and loss and reconnections. I even shed a few tears. The flow of Dawn’s writing was wonderful and I really enjoyed the characters. It was nice to see the growth they all did with lifes challenges. I am really excited for book two in this series because even though most things are wrapped in book one, there are some unanswered questions left to play out in the second installment. Dawn Pendleton is definitely one to watch, this was a great story with great writing.
